Yarn confusion, extreme fatigue, and Fiber Friday

Last week I decided I hadn't spun anything recently that I particularly wanted to use for Sophie's or Marian's Christmas hat. I went to my favorite YSO (yarn shop online), KnitPicks, and ordered two skeins each of Twirl, one in orchid, one in blue. This is a fabulous twist of 69% baby alpaca and 29% Peruvian Highlands wool with 2% nylon as the binder--for $3.99 a skein!! That's KnitPicks for you--top quality yarns for a fraction of other yarn stores. I have been so pleased with everything I've gotten from them over the last few years. NAYY, I'm just a satisfied customer.

Anyway, I gave up on getting the yarn in time to use it for the little hats, so I went to Yorkshire Yarns, my favorite LYS, and bought some really neat yarn combinations to use instead of the Twirl (for a meager investment of $40 for two kids' hats), and then the Twirl came this afternoon. Now I'm confused, exhausted (I didn't sleep last night and napped for a total of 35 minutes today), and completely incapable of making a decision and starting a hat tonight. I think I'll fall into bed within the hour. It's not quite 8:00 Pacific Time.

On Friday afternoons, I have a group of fiber friends/some former students who meet at my house for spinning, knitting, weaving, crocheting, needlework, and more, plus spiritual, philosophical, and ethical/moral discussions. Plus we all love each other a whole lot, making this a very rich time in every week for the lot of us. One of our members went to college this past fall, and she's home for Christmas break, so she was here last Friday and this Friday, knitting away at her Christmas gifts. She is knitting a fabulous scarf with very complex Celtic knot type cables in a dark green yarn, as well as a nifty white scarf for a boy friend with a skull shape knitted on each end of this incredibly soft and lovely fabric she's making from some fabulous Cormo sliver that I spun into a soft DK to worsted weight two-ply several years ago. Her name is Anna and I admire her so much. Her mom, Molly, had been spinning some blue yarn for a couple of weeks and today she plyed two different blues together--one was somewhat variegated with little white neps and one was a solid bright blue, if my memory serves me well tonight--and it is just stunning! Molly is amazing, too. She took to spinning and surpassed me within the first six months! She can spin anything, and well. Jacque, Janet, Ginny, Lindsey, and Doug were all otherwise engaged, and this is a notice to Cris and Maria--COME BACK! We miss you!

This little group has fed me so well, personally and spiritually, during a very difficult time in my life, and I'm grateful for every one of these folks. Thanks, ladies and Doug!

I'm getting too stupid to think anymore tonight, so I will leave you with a blessing for your spinning time: Om mani padme hum. The jewel within the lotus. All the teachings of the Buddha, lots of whose teachings were the same as those of Jesus bar Joseph, known as the Christ. Look for a book called Jesus and Buddha--very interesting!
